Family of siblings killed in Tallaght tragedy want to thank RTE's Ryan Tubridy for radio tribute

The family of the three siblings killed in Tallaght last month want to thank RTE presenter Ryan Tubridy for his kind words on the radio.

Lisa, 18, and her twin siblings Christy and Chelsea Cawley, 8, died last month, and their heartbroken sister Margaret Cash told the Irish Mirror the pain they've been through since.

Margaret said that the family wanted to personally thank RTE presenter Ryan Tubridy for his words on radio - and for his attendance at the scene in the days that followed, where he paid his respects.

“We’re trying to get in contact with Ryan Tubridy. We just want to say a big thanks to him. It meant a lot.

“They loved the Toy show and watched it every year. We’d all sit down, watch it together, get all matching pyjamas and watch it together.”

Margaret, 23, revealed that she and her family will never return to that house following the horrors that occurred there.

“We’re moving. It was our home but it’s just with everything that went on there I don’t think it’ll ever be home again.

“It’ll never be home without them,” she said.

The family are thanking the RTE presenter after he opened his radio show with a poignant message dedicated to the siblings and admitted he found it hard to look at their photos.

After some music, Tubridy tried to return to the show but was overcome with emotion. He was forced to go off-air following a pause.

Tubridy began by speaking about the 8-year-old twins and said: “Today, I looked at the photographs. I try to avoid them. Being honest with you, I’m not strong enough to look at these things.

“When you see the photos today of twins that are 8 years old, of Chelsea and Christy Cawley, they’re making their First Holy Communion.

“That’s what happens when you’re twins and you make your First Holy Communion, you pose for a photograph. You get your hair done. You wear the white dress, as Chelsea did, and you wear your three-piece suit like Christy did.

“They look like two kids who are going to have the best day of their lives, and maybe they did that day.

“There’s devilment in their eyes too. They look like they’re the kind of kids I would have loved to have met and had a laugh with, maybe on Toy Show day or something like that.”
