The family of a Lancashire man who has gone missing in Brazil were wrongly told by authorities that his body had been found. The Brazilian ambassador to the UK has been forced to apologise for the blunder in a letter.
Journalist Dom Phillips and his travelling partner and tour guide Bruno Pereira went missing in a remote part of the Amazon last week. This week, the family were informed that their bodies has been found tied to trees in the rainforest, LancsLive reports.
However, officials only suspected the bodies belonged to the missing men and never confirmed their identities, according to reports in the Guardian. Mr Phillips' brother-in-law Paul Sherwood, confirmed on Tuesday, June 14, that ambassador Fred Arruda had written to the family to say the statement was incorrect.
