Family living in Travelodge as council struggles to rehouse them in Britain's second home capital

A mum and her three children have been living in a Travelodge for four months as a council struggle to rehome them. Charlene Pascoe, 34, was left with nowhere to go after being evicted from her rental property earlier this year.

And for the past 15 weeks, the family has been left to struggle in a hotel room in St Austell in Cornwall. Some areas in the county have up to 40 per cent of properties used as second homes.

But Charlene, Freya, 12, Kieran, ten, and Darcy, two, have had to rely on family and friends for meals and play time away from their Travelodge room. “Somebody said to me at the beginning 'look at it like a holiday' - it’s most certainly not a holiday," said Charlene, 34.
