Family left with nothing as only suitcase disappears after Ryanair flight

A family of four said they will have to wash their clothes in the sink after their suitcase didn't turn up in Ibiza.

Lucy Taylor, 33, her partner Adam and two children, aged one and four, boarded a Ryanair flight to the island on Thursday, April 14. But when the family landed in Ibiza and went to baggage claim, they discovered their only suitcase hadn't arrived.

The suitcase had everything for the family's week-long trip inside, including nappies and beakers for the baby, all of the family's toiletries, brand new clothes and headphones, MEN reports.

Lucy said they logged the bag as missing at Ibiza Airport but have since had barely any communication or help from Ryanair, although a spokesperson for the airline said they had not received a bag claim from the family. Lucy said many of the shops in Ibiza are closed with it being the Easter weekend, so the family are struggling to buy items.

She said: "We checked in our bag with a person, not at a self check-in. We got to Ibiza and there weren't that many bags that had been checked-in, probably about 20 cases.

"Ours was the only one that did not turn up. We're quite well-travelled and we've never had this happen to us before. We put everything in one bag. It's got nappies, toiletries, headphones, everything in there.

"We told them at Ibiza Airport and we filled in a lost bag report. They said they would get back to us within 15 days and that is it. They said they would contact Manchester Airport but that they haven't heard from them yet.

"When you go on the app and type in the reference number it just says 'searching'."

Lucy added: "We've heard nothing about getting any vouchers to buy things. We haven't even been given a bag of toiletries."

The family managed to find a souvenir shop to buy some swimming costumes for the kids but explained how locals said the main shops will not open again until Tuesday.

Lucy said: "We'll just have to wash stuff in the sink but we're not even dressed suitably as it's sunny. The bag is checked in under my name and they know I have an infant with me. We spent a fortune on clothes for the kids. I just hope it shows up."

A Ryanair spokesperson said: "As our records show that Ms. Taylor has not actually submitted a bag claim, our Customer Service Team has been in touch directly to assist her with making a claim."

A spokesperson for Manchester Airport said baggage is the responsibility of the airline and their appointed handling agent.
