The family of an elderly woman are worried she is “deteriorating rapidly” in hospital after a bad fall at her home.
Sarah Carlin, 85, was rushed to Aintree Hospital after breaking her hip following a “nasty fall”, but upon her arrival to the hospital, her worried family say things have gone from “bad to worse”. Her son Robert told the ECHO his mum is not getting the care and attention she requires and he worries she will not improve.
He said: “I wouldn’t want anyone to go through what I’ve gone through with my mum. The state she is in, she may not be here much longer, she’s not eating. They were meant to get her up and moving but she’s being left.”

Sarah went through surgery three days after she was admitted but despite needing physiotherapy before she could return home, the family say Sarah, who is a “frail pensioner” has been left in a “dirty room” and her legs are in an “awful condition”. Robert added: “She’s been getting no physiotherapy, her legs are swollen, there’s pus coming out of her legs.
“We just want my mum to be mobile again but she’s just deteriorating. We’ve argued with the ward manager, but nothing is being done. It’s a disgrace, she’s not getting looked after properly. They are meant to get her up and moving but she’s getting worse, she even caught an infection while in the hospital.”
Responding to the claims, a spokesperson for the hospital said that providing safe patient care to Sarah is their "utmost priority".
Concerned granddaughter Rebecca, 18, said her grandma is getting "progressively worse" and is in a "depressing state". The family said they have since complained to hospital staff but get “palmed off”.
Robert said: “She’s got bruises all over her body but we are told she doesn’t have priority. She’s still in pain, the ward manager said it’s just the way it is but it’s a disgrace. They haven’t looked after her. It’s been very stressful, she is usually a fit and active woman, always doing things but she’s just deteriorating, she’s going to pass away and they aren’t doing anything.
“She just wants to get out and come home. It’s very badly run but my mum is in their care. Her legs are red raw, they are swollen, there’s pus coming out which we’ve had to clean ourselves and she hasn’t had a shower.”
A spokesperson for Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said: "Providing safe patient care is our utmost priority. Our clinical teams have spoken directly with Mr Carlin to listen to and alleviate any concerns about his mother’s care, and we will continue to liaise with the family around her care plan going forward."
