A dog has died after falling into fast-flowing water and disappearing underground. Cocker Spaniel Jed sparked a desperate rescue attempt after his family suddenly lost sight of him whilst out walking on Sunday (August 7) at Maenofferen slate quarry in Blaenau Ffestiniog.
Dozens of people, including mountain rescue volunteers, joined in the search for the missing pet after owner Cai Dixon raised the alarm on social media. "Our dog Jed has been sucked into fast flowing water going underground at Maenofferen Quarry where the old mill ruins are," he posted on Facebook.
"There is no sign of him and cave rescue are on their way. If anyone can spare the evening to help us search for him we need any help possible ASAP."

However, Jed was sadly found dead later that same day, with Zip World worker Cai breaking the tragic new online, reports North Wales Live. "Just want to start with saying a massive thank you to every single person who ran up the quarry to help us find Jed," he posted.

"From cave rescue, mountain rescue and everyone I work with at Zip World, we must have had over 50 people in the space of an hour. Can't express how me and my mam are feeling."
A spokesperson for South Snowdonia Search and Rescue Team said: "The team were called out last night (Sunday) in Blaenau Ffestiniog to assist with a rescue of a dog that had fallen into a water culvert near Maenofferen slate quarry. Cave Rescue were also called out in the incident."
"Sadly, Jed passed away in the accident. The team would like to pass on their condolences to Cai and his family."
