The family of a 12-year-old schoolgirl missing for seven days are desperate to locate her as police call on the public to report any possible sightings.
Jamie-Lee Harvie, who lives in Ayr, hasn’t been seen or in contact with loved ones since last Tuesday when she was last seen at Irvine Train Station by a family member.
Worried loved ones are pleading with the public to be on the look out for Jamie-Lee, who is described as 5ft in height and of medium build with long, light, brown hair.
She was wearing black clothing including a padded jacket, jumper, leggings and trainers when she was last seen at around 3.30pm on Tuesday, March 14.
A dedicated team of officers are growing increasingly concerned for her whereabouts and have appealed to the public, particularly the Irvine community, to help trace the Irvine Royal Academy pupil.
They do not believe Jamie-Lee has come to any harm and hope she is still within the Irvine area.
Chief Inspector Kevin Lammie, Local area commander for Ayrshire, said: “Jamie-Lee was last seen by a member of her family at Irvine Train Station around about 3.30pm last Tuesday, which is now one week ago.
“We know that she left Ayr Train Station round about 3.25pm and we know that she got off at Irvine Train Station which is where she was last seen.
“Since then we have no information as to Jamie-Lee’s whereabouts and this is now really concerning me.
“This is out of character for Jamie-Lee to be missing for this long.
“The fact is that Jamie-Lee is 12 and we have been unable, despite extensive searches, to trace her and no-one has been able to say they have heard from her.
“I now have a dedicated team here working exclusively on this, that ranges from conventional officers to specialist officers as well. The enquiry has been through extensive address searches; friends, family, school friends. We’ve also gone through CCTV enquiries as much as we possibly can to try and pick up any sightings of our own of Jamie-Lee. We’ve done enquiries into her phone, bank accounts and so forth and we will continue to do that for as long as we need to.”
The last possible sighting of the schoolgirl was made by a member of the public who believes they saw her outside Irvine Royal Academy at approximately 7pm on Saturday, March 18 but, as of yet, officers have not been able to confirm that.
Chief Inspector Lammie said Jamie-Lee “may appear older than her years” and thankfully at this time “there is nothing to suggest that she has come to any harm."
“But she is a child and I want to make sure that she is safe and well,” he added.
Officers don’t believe that Jamie-Lee has a mobile phone in her possession or access to a bank account.
CI Lammie said: “Although she lives in Ayr, she comes from Irvine and still has family and friends here.
“Earlier I said she was last seen at the train station in Irvine so it may be Jamie-Lee is in Irvine somewhere.
“I would like to stress that Jamie-Lee is not in any trouble at all. All I would like to do is make sure that Jamie-Lee is safe and well.
“I would like to hear from anybody in the community from North Ayrshire, but particularly Irvine as that’s where she was last seen, to report any sightings to me.
“Jamie-Lee might be in your company but at the end of the day she has been reported to me as a missing child and she is 12 years old and I would ask that if you are in her company that you come forward and let me know she is safe and well.
“If you do not wish to give your name then you should phone 101 and provide your information anonymously by quoting the reference 2277.
CI Lammie made a direct appeal to Jamie-Lee and said: “I would stress again that you are not in any trouble whatsoever and we would be willing to talk to you but please contact me to let me know you are safe and well.“
