She sought medical care at Piedmont Henry Hospital in Stockbridge for a dilation and curettage procedure following the termination of her pregnancy. However, hospital staff reportedly delayed performing the procedure for about 20 hours.
High-profile civil rights and personal injury attorney Ben Crump is representing Thurman's family in a lawsuit against the hospital. Crump asserts that the hospital, not Georgia's abortion laws, is to blame for Thurman's death. He emphasized that medical professionals had a duty to intervene and save her life, as there were no legal barriers preventing them from doing so.
