Families smile with tears of joy as they are reunited in Dublin Airport

Families smiled with tears of joy as they reunited this Christmas without Covid-19 restrictions for the first time in three years.

Throngs of loved ones heard cead mile failte and hugged in happy scenes during one of the busiest days of the festive season at Dublin Airport. Hugo Kane, from Co Kildare, dressed up in a Christmas jumper to welcome daughter Caroline home from London.

The Sweeneys travelled from Cobh in Co Cork for Cara Shields who flew in from Maryland in the US. Cara got hugs from Michael Sweeney, four, and Ciara O Donovan for her homecoming.

Also reuniting were the O Ceallaigh family, including Margaret, Eilis, and Diarmuid who were overjoyed to have Aoife back from San Francisco. Mike Hoare flew in from Dubai and got a bear hug from son Donal, six, from Naul in Co Dublin.

David Whitney was mobbed by his children Nathan, eight, Cal, six, and four-year-old Jodi after returning from Perth in Australia. Mayo sisters Shanon and Rachel Mellett greeted sibling Aishling after she touched down from Australia.

Four-month-old Eva Mae also flew in from Down Under with Jordan Williams and Emma O Sullivan. They were greeted by Cathy O’Sullivan, from Cork, after arriving.

Becky Hanlon arrived from New Zealand and met her sister-in-law Lisa Hanlon, from Drogheda. And Deborah and Mark McLoughlin, from Baldoyle in Dublin, could not wait to see their son Ben.

Recently, a popular pub in Dublin Airport reopened.
