Veteran NBN News chief court reporter and presenter Tyson Cottrill has signed off for the final time.
Cottrill is the latest familiar face lost to the newsroom after WIN Television's cuts saw long-time newsreader Jane Goldsmith say goodbye to NBN News in June after 25 years with the network.
The Newcastle Herald understands Cottrill has resigned for another role in communications, and was not one of the 19 journalists, presenters and camera operators gutted from newsrooms in Newcastle, Central Coast, Coffs Harbour, Tamworth and Lismore.
In an online post, Cottrill said he was "incredibly grateful" to have spent years in a role he truly loves, and has never taken the importance or responsibility of it for granted.
"I've had countless unforgettable experiences, met some truly wonderful people along the way, and made lifelong friends," he said.
"As I reflect on this chapter, being NBN's longest-serving court reporter is something I'm particularly proud of, especially considering I did everything to avoid covering court in my early days.
"I'll also cherish the immense privilege of being welcomed into your homes to read the news and be part of your evenings for over a decade."
Cottrill worked as a journalist for two decades, 15 of those served in the Newcastle newsroom.
He covered a raft of major court stories, including the trial of Greta bus crash driver Brett Button and former NRL player Jarryd Hayne's case.
Cottrill said he will always look back at his time with NBN News with enormous gratitude and pride.
"Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey, here's to the next chapter," he said.
The once rusted-on court reporter plans to take a few weeks off before moving into his new role.
