Falling temperatures could once again be hitting the UK, as the Met Office says the jet stream is forcing cold air that has been blasting parts of the USA across the Atlantic to the UK. Dozens of people are reported to have died after blizzards hit North America in recent days.
According to The Mirror, at least 58 people have also been trapped in their vehicles for days with New York State and Buffalo seemingly worst affected. Now the Met Office has warned that the cold air could be making its way towards the UK, however forecasts are still "uncertain" as the new year approaches.
Sharing a forecast on Twitter the Met Office said: "The UK is set for an unsettled period leading to New Year's. This is partly related to the cold air that has been spreading across North America, helping to strengthen the jet stream and push low-pressure systems across the Atlantic."

However, the forecaster did clarify that they didn't expect the weather to be as severe as that in the USA. Replying to one person, a forecaster on the Met Office team said: "We aren't expecting to see any extreme conditions similar to that of the USA. However the strengthened jet stream will likely bring unsettled weather to the UK in the form of low pressure systems, which is expected to continue into the new year."
Speaking of the situation in America, New York Governor Kathy Hochul has said: "This is a war with mother nature, and she has been hitting us with everything she has. It is like going to a war zone, and the vehicles along the sides of the roads are shocking.”
