'Fallen hero' Glasgow nurse died from covid on same day of alleged Downing Street party

A 'much-loved' frontline Glasgow nurse died in hospital from covid on the same day a party is alleged to have taken place at Downing Street in breach of lockdown rules.

Ana Lisa Labrador Sayson died from multiple organ failure after contracting the virus on December 15, 2020. She was 53.

A mother or two, Ana had moved to Scotland to work as a nurse from her native Philippines around 2004.

Ana worked as a staff nurse at Stobhill Hospital, but had been working at Glasgow Royal Infirmary amid the pandemic after being transferred to the hospital due to staffing problems.

On the day of her cremation, the hearse carrying her body was reported to have visited both hospitals so that her colleagues could come out to line the street and pay their respects.

Paying tribute to Ana in the wake of her tragic death, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde chief nurse John Stuart said: "Ana Lisa was a much-loved member of the team and an incredibly compassionate nurse who was devoted to the care of her patients."

A GoFundMe, describing Ana as a 'fallen hero', was also set up in the weeks after her death to assist her family and help pay for funeral costs, raising £6,600 from an initial target of £1,000.

On the day of Ana's death, a Christmas quiz took place in Downing Street while London was under tier 2 restrictions banning two or more people from different households from meeting indoors, unless "reasonably necessary" for work purposes.

The Metropolitan Police are currently investigating a number of events that took place at Number 10 in relation to possible breaches of coronavirus regulations.
