Britain has reaffirmed its sovereignty over the Falkland Islands after US President Donald Trump said Washington was reviewing its position on the disputed South Atlantic territory, raising fresh questions over the future of a long-running UK-Argentina dispute.

Trump made the comments on 31 August 2026, saying he reviews every policy position when asked about the Falklands. He did not say whether the review would result in a change to the United States' position.
