Bijan Robinson played a key role in the Atlanta Falcons recording one of the most thrilling victories we’ve seen thus far in the 2024 NFL season. The second-year running back did a little bit of everything in Sunday night’s 22-21 win over the Eagles.
“Just putting it on them from the beginning — running the ball, catching the ball out of the backfield, doing the dynamic stuff God blessed me to do to help this team win,” Robinson said after the game.
Robinson’s versatility was on display in Week 2 as he racked up 122 all-purpose yards, but he may have impressed his coaches with his blocking ability more than anything else.
“Watching him step up and make that big-time block when Mooney got the touchdown on a zero blitz,” Falcons head coach Raheem Morris said. “Watching him step up there and put his face on a defender who was rushing was absolutely outstanding. Or watching him help, when he blocked on the right side on the chips block.”
Robinson finished out the 22-21 win over the Philadelphia Eagles with 97 rushing yards on 14 carries, also tallying four receptions for 25 yards. Through the first two games of the season, he’s amassed 165 rushing yards on 32 carries with nine receptions for 68 yards.
Offensive coordinator Zac Robinson is looking forward to seeing Robinson’s continued progression as he adapts to the NFL game in his second season.
“Bijan, I thought he saw the game really well,” Robinson said Wednesday. “He was hitting everything that was there. I know he feels like he left a couple things on the table just in terms of attacking the third level of the defense, but those things will come with more reps. Just getting used to the game flow and how the speed of the game is.”
Robinson echoed Morris’ thoughts on Robinson’s blocking, which will continue to be an asset.
“I thought the blocking he did was incredible. Him being able to close the space on some of those linebackers and show what he can do in pass protection.”
Robinson and the Falcons will look to keep the momentum going on Sunday night when they face the visiting Kansas City Chiefs at 8:20 p.m. ET in Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
