A retired California couple reportedly lost nearly $850,000 (£642,000) after people posing as FBI agents allegedly convinced them they were connected to a criminal investigation.

The callers reportedly used fake documents, threats of arrest, demands for secrecy, and an apparent video call to make the investigation look genuine. The couple eventually moved money from retirement accounts and borrowed against their home before transferring the funds into cryptocurrency wallets controlled by the scammers.
