Ever since Leeds United were forced to sell James Milner after they were relegated in 2003/04, there have always been hopes amongst the fanbase that the club would one day be able to bring the academy product back to Elland Road.
These hopes grew fainter over the years as the Whites spent so long outside the top division before finally returning to the Premier League last season after 16 years away. However, Milner was playing for the Premier League champions, Liverpool at that stage, so he was unobtainable for Leeds.
Milner is out of contract this summer but - even at the age of 36 - won't be returning to Elland Road as Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Milner wants to play on and both player and club are keen for him to stay at least another season at Liverpool as they have contract talks.
"I am in talks, the club is in talks with Milly," Klopp said.
"There is no chance Milly will retire next year so he is desperate to play on."
"I understand it, to be honest, because life after career, when you are lucky enough to stay healthy, is much longer than your career."
Since leaving Leeds, Milner played for Newcastle United and Aston Villa before moving to Manchester City, where he won every major domestic trophy. His move to Liverpool brought the Champions League and Club World Cup trophies as well as another Premier League title. He also represented England 61 times, playing in World Cup 2010 and Euro 2012 for the national team.
Milner made his Premier League debut at 16-years-old and became the youngest scorer in the competition when he scored against Sunderland on Boxing Day 2002 as he was only 16 years and 356 years old at the time.
