“I’d much rather have to kiss girls all day than kiss boys.
“It’s that female to female thing, you feel more comfortable.”
With steamy scenes around the corner for her character, Emily told how “mortifying” screen kisses can be.
She added: “The first kiss is hard, number one you’re sober, number two there could be anywhere from 10 to 50 people watching you.
“It’s a wee bit mortifying, you think what if I’m a really s**t kisser and nobody told me and then you have to do it in front of people.”
Emily said she is always cast as gay or bisexual as casting directors think she’s flamboyant.
She said: “I’m not gay but a lot of the circles I hang around in are. This is probably the 10th gay character I’ve played, I always play gay.”
Show bosses are keen to highlight gender fluidity as things are about to get racy on the hit soap. Gwen is creating havoc in Carrigstown, sending mixed messages to potential lovers.
She said: “I’m sure my storyline has something to do with Pride but I think people want to see themselves on TV. They want to show Ireland is not just all straight people.”
Fair City airs tonight at 8.30pm on RTE One and RTE Player.
