Failed armed robber said 'I give up lad' after arrest

A man who attempted to rob a bank and post office within two days said “I give up lad” after being arrested, a court heard.

Adam Gilbert, 37, of no fixed abode, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court on Wednesday after pleading guilty to two counts of robbery and two counts of possessing an imitation firearm in September last year. The convicted criminal held a customer service assistant at a Halifax bank and a woman who was seven months pregnant at a post office at gunpoint as he demanded money from them.

He failed to get a penny from either attempt. Gilbert claimed he was planning to take his own life and only committed the robberies to pay for his own funeral.
