FAI bosses are awaiting the outcome of an extraordinary meeting of UEFA's executive committee tomorrow morning regarding their Nations League away tie in Ukraine.
Ireland were orginally scheduled to play in the capital Kyiv on Tuesday, June 14.
But the FAI recently indicated that following an escalation in tensions in the region, the match would be moved to Lviv.
However it has now been suggested that the fixture could be moved to neutral Poland following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
UEFA said that the meeting had been called to "evaluate the situation and take all necessary decisions".
Ireland are also due to host Ukraine at the Aviva Stadium in their Nations League opener on June 4.
The statement read: "The FAI will continue to communicate on an ongoing basis with our Government, our colleagues at UEFA and the Ukraine Association of Football with regards to the latest developments and the implications for the Ukraine v Republic of Ireland fixture in the UEFA Nations League, currently fixed for Lviv on Tuesday, June 14th.
"The FAI will also welcome Ukraine to Dublin on June 4th for the opening fixture in the UEFA Nations League campaign.
"The FAI awaits the outcome of the UEFA ExCo meeting on Friday, February 25th which has been called to discuss the current situation in the Ukraine."
UEFA are also looking into the possibility of moving the Champions League final from the Gazprom Arena in St Petersburg on June 28 as Russia is set to be hit with a series of major sporting event sanctions.
