A by-election for the federal seat of Fadden will be held in just under two months following the resignation of Liberal MP Stuart Robert.
The election in the Gold Coast seat will be held on July 15 following an announcement from Speaker of the House Milton Dick today.
Prospective candidates have about a month before nominations close in the safe Liberal seat which Mr Robert held since 2007.
The former minister, who took "absolute responsibility" for the implementation of the Robodebt scheme, said early this month he would step down from politics and he formally resigned last week.
So far, three Liberal Party candidates have put their hand up for pre-selection.
They include Gold Coast councillor Cameron Caldwell, emergency doctor and disability advocate Dinesh Palipana and businesswoman Fran Ward.
Potential candidates for other major parties are yet to be announced.
The Labor government won a by-election in the Melbourne electorate of Aston last month.
It was the first time a government had gained a seat from the opposition at a by-election since 1920.
