Facebook users have been left baffled by a torrent of celebrity posts on their newsfeeds when using the app.
Many people are receiving regular updates from celebrity pages that are normally removed by the social media platform’s algorithm. Users have complained that people’s posts on celebrity pages, including ones to American actor Vin Diesel and rapper Eminem, are coming up on their screens.
People have made the most of the bug, however, by posting memes about the issue across social media platforms. One user even humorously pointed out the malfunction has made him sympathise with celebrities as a result of the questionable messages they receive.

“I have gained an entire new level of respect for celebrities. In principal, I know how stupid people are. After seeing what people actually post to celebrities, it’s unfathomable how dumb the human race is,” the user wrote on Twitter.
The glitch occurs despite the fact that most people have not previous interacted with the pages. Downdetector.ie, a website which monitors app errors and outages, recorded 1,114 complaints made by Facebook users. Meta, Facebook’s parent company, has not yet commented on the error.
The celebrity spam is one of many outages Meta has witnessed in recent times. The social media giant made headlines in October last year after several of its apps, including Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram suffered from a global outage, leaving users unable to check their newsfeeds or post updates.
