Thousands of users are reporting that Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp are experiencing problems with the social media sites.
Many have flocked to Twitter to report that their apps were either unresponsive or that they were unable to gain access.
Google data shows that searches for ‘Facebook down’ exploded from 8:40pm on the evening of Friday October 28. DownDetector, where online users go to report a site crashing, says that there were over 20,000 enquiries about Facebook, the Daily Record reports.

Facebook Messenger was also found to be unresponsive for thousands of users. Posting to Twitter, DownDetector said: "User reports indicate Facebook Messenger is having problems since 3:53 PM EDT https://downdetector.com/status/facebook-messenger/
"RT if you're also having problems #FacebookMessengerdown "
WhatsApp was also down earlier in the week. On Tuesday, thousands of users reported problems with accessing the app for several hours.
