Fabio Carvalho gives verdict on his first Liverpool display with 'bittersweet' admission

New Liverpool signing Fabio Carvalho says his first appearance for the club is 'bittersweet' after they were beaten 4-0 by Manchester United in Bangkok on Monday.

The Reds took on their rivals at the Rajamangala National Stadium with their first opportunity to get some much needed minutes in the legs. Carvalho was among the XI to start the game, along with a mix of both first team and academy players.

United, who are a week ahead of Liverpool in their preparations, fielded a much stronger XI and it paid off as they pushes aside the Reds comfortably. Goal from Jadon Sancho, Fred, Anthony Martial and Facundo Pellistri secured the win for Erik ten Hag's side.

Liverpool came close on a few occasions, Carvalho himself had an opportunity to put himself on the scoresheet but his effort hit the post. Luis Diaz was also denied by United goalkeeper David de Gea while Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez both had chances late on.

Carvalho admitted his first appearance was 'bittersweet' given the result, but expressed his confidence heading into Friday's game against Crystal Palace in Singapore.

He told LFC TV : "We have a winning mentality that starts in training and we want to win at any cost. Today is bittersweet for me as it's not nice to get beat, especially in the way we did against United.

"We'll make sure we correct our mistakes and put it right in the next game. Next game I'm sure I'll score, that's the mentality you've got to have!"

The youngster joined up with his teammates for pre-season training early last week and is starting to settle into life at his new club. Carvalho added: "Everyone has been fantastic to me which I'm so grateful for. It sounds cliché but it feels like one big family."
