FA take action over Rodri 'incident' in Man City vs Liverpool clash as Arsenal precedent set

The FA are reviewing an incident from Manchester City's 4-1 victory over Liverpool, as per The Mirror.

City midfielder Rodri fouled Reds attacker Cody Gakpo moments after the former had received a yellow card, sparking a number of Jurgen Klopp's squad surrounding referee Simon Hooper as urged the official to show the Spanish international a second yellow card.

Hooper ignored their claims and Rodri escaped a sending-off, although the Merseyside-based club may not be so lucky if the FA deem them to have breached FA rule E20.1, which involves players conducting themselves in an orderly fashion. Premier League leaders Arsenal were charged twice back in January after allegedly breaching the rule against Newcastle United in the league and Oxford United in the FA Cup.

During a 0-0 draw with the Magpies, several Arsenal players surrounded the referee in the 95th minute, after they weren't awarded a penalty when a Granit Xhaka cross struck the arm of Jacob Murphy in the box. In the 3-0 win over Oxford, Kieran Tierney, Mohamed Elneny, Gabriel Magalhaes and Albert Sambi Lokonga all confronted official David Coote after the latter's strike hit the arm of an opposition defender.

The Gunners received a £40,000 fine for the Newcastle charge before appealing the FA's verdict from the Oxford match. This appeal was ultimately unsuccessful and they were then slapped with a £60,000 penalty.
