FA Cup fourth round draw simulated as Manchester United and Man City face Championship ties

Manchester United became the first side to book their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup with a routine 3-1 win over Everton at Old Trafford on Friday evening.

United, who are looking into the prospect of signing Burnley striker Wout Weghorst on loan for the remainder of the season, sealed their passage to the next round thanks to goals from Antony, Conor Coady (own goal) and Marcus Rashford. It marked a seventh win on the bounce for Erik ten Hag's side, meaning they will head into Tuesday night's Carabao Cup quarter-final against Charlton Athletic with confidence flowing through their veins.

After Coady had cancelled out Antony's opener to ensure the scores were level at the half-time interval, United turned the screw after the break, inspired by the in-form Rashford. First, he saw a low cross into the box turned into the net by Coady before converting a late penalty to score his 13th goal of the season.

United have already been joined in the next round by fellow Premier League heavyweights Tottenham Hotspur, who recorded a hard-fought 1-0 win over League One side Portsmouth. However, Newcastle United, currently level on points with the Reds in the Premier League table, suffered a shock exit, losing 2-1 to League One outfit Sheffield Wednesday.

Liverpool, however, will feature in this afternoon's draw, but must attempt to get past Wolves for a second time in a replay after playing out a 2-2 draw at Anfield on Saturday evening. Manchester City and Chelsea will also be in the hat, ahead of facing each other on Sunday afternoon.

It means that United could be one of just a handful of the Premier League's heavyweights still in the competition come fourth-round weekend later this month. Arsenal play Oxford United in the final round of the weekend on Monday evening.

Ahead of the real draw taking place just after 4pm on Sunday, MEN Sport ran a quick simulator of the draw and here are the results:

Simulated FA Cup fourth-round draw:

West Ham vs Bristol City/Swansea City

Preston North End vs Sheffield Wednesday

Tottenham Hotspur vs Oxford/Arsenal

Leicester City vs Fleetwood Town

Boreham Wood/Accrington Stanley vs Liverpool/Wolves

Norwich City/Blackburn Rovers vs Forest Green Rovers/Birmingham City

Southampton vs Fulham

Cardiff City/Leeds United vs Brighton & Hove Albion

Manchester City/Chelsea vs Sunderland

Aston Villa/Stevenage vs Ipswich Town

Chesterfield/West Bromwich Albion vs Wrexham

Sheffield United vs Grimsby Town

Stockport County/Walsall vs Derby County/Barnsley

Hartlepool United/Stoke City vs Burnley

Luton Town/Wigan Athletic vs Blackpool

Reading vs Manchester United

As you can see from the simulated draw above, both United and City, should the latter get through, will face Championship opposition in the next round. Reading defeated Watford 2-0 at the Madejski Stadium while Sunderland produced a heroic comeback to beat Shrewsbury Town.

The Black Cats were 1-0 down as the contest entered second-half injury time but scored twice in the space of two minutes to turn the game on its head and win 2-1.

The real draw will take place ahead of City's clash with Chelsea live on BBC One, shortly after 4pm, as stated above.

*This simulation was conducted ahead of any of Sunday's eight FA Cup third-round clashes kicking-off, meaning opponents could differ. Plus, Forest Green Rovers' clash with Birmingham City yesterday was postponed, meaning they still have to play the original tie.
