F1 2024 season preview
With only four GPs and one last Sprint to go, a frantic title showdown between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris is on, as is a legitimate three-way constructors' showdown between McLaren, Ferrari and Red Bull. Norris is on pole for today's Brazilian GP, with Verstappen all the way back in 17th.
Now if only the FIA could decide whether driving an opponent off track should be permissible or not... Not only did Verstappen get away with it in Austin, but to add insult to injury the victim of his trademark manoeuvre, Norris, was slapped with a five-second penalty for overtaking the Dutchman off-track.
The small matter of Verstappen deliberately driving Norris off the road – so forcefully all four wheels of his own Red Bull went out of bounds too – apparently didn't factor in the FIA's thinking. In Mexico, however, the same trick earned Verstappen a 10-second time penalty.
With the stakes this high, the FIA needs to sort it out before we get a repeat of the 2021 fiasco.
Norris is now only 44 points behind Verstappen in the drivers' standings, while Ferrari have leapfrogged Red Bull in the constructors' championship. The Scuderia are 25 points clear of the reigning champions, and 29 behind McLaren. Read on as we explain how to watch F1 races online and on TV.
