F1 Australian Grand Prix qualifying LIVE! Pole position result, reaction and latest news from Melbourne

F1 Australian Grand Prix qualifying - LIVE!

We are all set for another fascinating duel between title rivals Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen in Melbourne on Sunday.

Ferrari’s early championship leader Leclerc produced a superb final lap to pip the reigning world champion to top spot on the grid at the revamped Albert Park Circuit this morning.

Sergio Perez will line up third for Red Bull, with Lando Norris P4 and Daniel Ricciardo qualifying in seventh on a great day for McLaren.

Lewis Hamilton and George Russell will start fifth and sixth respectively after a better day for Mercedes, with Esteban Ocon eighth and Alpine team-mate Fernando Alonso 10th after crashing in Q3.

Carlos Sainz is way down in ninth in the other Ferrari after an issue meant he was unable to properly warm his tyres during the top-10 shootout.

Saturday’s eventful qualifying session also saw a heavy collision between Lance Stroll and Nicholas Latifi, with both drivers blaming the other for the unfortunate incident.

Sebastian Vettel, meanwhile, was only able to produce one lap in Q1 after crashing earlier alongside Aston Martin team-mate Stroll in the third and final practice session.
