Esteban Ocon has revealed he is a “free agent next year” as he responded to speculation over his Formula 1 future with Haas.
The Frenchman, who is a grand prix winner after his memorable triumph for Alpine in Hungary in 2021, joined Haas in 2025.
However, having finished behind British teammate Ollie Bearman in last year’s standings, 30-year-old Ocon has only scored three points this season, while Bearman is five places ahead with 18 points to his name.
Ocon’s struggles have triggered speculation about his future, with reports emerging this week connecting Ferrari junior driver Rafael Camara, a 21-year-old Brazilian currently second in this year’s F2 standings, with his seat for the 2027 season.
“At the moment, I'm definitely a free agent for next year,” Ocon said ahead of this Saturday’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix. “All these discussions... there are some certain topics in the background which are out of my control at this moment.
“So, I'm focused on the track, trying to deliver the best I can and getting the result that this team deserves.”
Ocon made his full-time debut in the sport in 2016 with Manor and has featured in 11 consecutive seasons, but insisted he is not looking at other options in motorsport such as endurance racing, IndyCar or Formula E.
“Everything we are looking at is in Formula 1,” the Frenchman said. “I’m 30 years old, I have raced 10 years in F1, but I have a lot more to give in this sport – having won one race and a couple of times on the podium doesn't satisfy me.
“I've raced more than 200 races, which is a lot, but I’m not satisfied with what I’ve done and what I've achieved so far.
“When I see some of my colleagues who I've raced with, they're all winning races, pole positions… that's where I want to be as well. I have a lot more to give to this sport, so I'm not looking somewhere else.”
Bearman, meanwhile, is being strongly tipped as the frontrunner to claim a seat at Ferrari should an opportunity open up. However, Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton are both contracted to the Scuderia until at least the end of the 2027 season.
