The actor Ezra Miller has pleaded guilty to unlawful trespass after being charged with stealing alcohol from a neighbour’s home in Vermont.
Miller, who has appeared in several Justice League movies, avoided a three-month jail sentence by accepting a deal for a misdemeanour charge of unlawful trespass, a $500 fine and other conditions.
Miller will also have to do random drug tests and continue seeking mental health treatment as part of the conditions.
Two other charges were dropped, including a felony burglary count that could have carried a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison.
However, Vermont Superior Court Judge Kerry Ann McDonald-Cady told Miller the felony charge could be refiled if they fail to abide by the details of probation.
After the 30-minute hearing, Miller’s attorney, Lisa Shelkrot, sent a statement on the actor’s behalf.
"Ezra would like to thank the court and the community for their trust and patience throughout this process, and would once again like to acknowledge the love and support they have received from their family and friends, who continue to be a vital presence in their ongoing mental health," the statement said.
Miller had pleaded not guilty in October to stealing alcohol from the neighbor’s home in Vermont.
Police had said they responded to a burglary report on May 1 and found that several bottles of alcohol had been taken while the homeowner was away.
The homeowner said he had been friends with Miller for about 18 years and bought the home near to where Miller also had a home, according to the police affidavit.
Miller, who uses they/them pronouns, was charged after police consulted surveillance footage and interviewed witnesses.
They have been involved in a string of high-profile incidents, including being arrested twice in Hawaii in 2022, including at a karaoke bar.
They were later charged with disorderly conduct and harassment and second-degree assault.
Miller pleaded no contest to the assault charge and paid a $500 (£442) fine and $30 (£26) in court costs, while the harassment charge was later dropped.
The actor is set to star in Warner Bros’ The Flash, the superhero’s first solo film, which is due to come out later this year.
