Ezra Miller has begun treatment for “complex mental health issues” amid a slew of ongoing controversies over their behaviour.
The actor, who uses they/them pronouns, has been the subject of several allegations ranging from disorderly conduct and assault to burglary in recent times.
The 29-year-old has now broken their silence about “going through an intense period of crisis” and is now seeking treatment.
In a statement provided to Variety by their representatives, Miller said: “Having recently gone through a time of intense crisis, I now understand that I am suffering complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment.
“I want to apologise to everyone that I have alarmed and upset with my past behaviour.
“I am committed to doing the necessary work to get back to a healthy, safe and productive stage in my life.”
The Evening Standard has contacted Miller’s rep for comment.
Miller’s statement comes a week after they were charged over the alleged burglary of a home in Stamford, Vermont on August 5.
The actor is known for The Perks of Being a Wallflower, the Fantastic Beasts franchise and DC’s Justice League and is set to star in the upcoming 2023 film, The Flash.
Vermont State police have said they were responding to a “burglary complaint” from a residence on County Road in Stamford, Vermont on Friday, August 5 at 5.55 pm.
The police report stated: “Initial findings indicated that several bottles of alcohol were taken from within the residence while the homeowners were not present.
“As a result of an investigation that included surveillance videos and statements, probable cause was found to charge Ezra M Miller with the offence of felony burglary into an unoccupied dwelling.”
The Flash actor was located by police three days after the burglary, on Monday around 11.23 pm.
The Hollywood star has been the centre of other controversies and alleged crimes in recent months including two arrests in Hawaii for a second-degree assault charge and disorderly conduct at a karaoke bar, and several accusations of abusing and grooming a young girl.
Miller has now been issued with a citation and is due to appear in Vermont Superior Court Bennington Criminal Division on September 26 for arraignment.
Last week, Warner Bros Discovery CEO David Zaslav said The Flash will go ahead and will be released in cinemas next June.
He said: “We have seen ‘The Flash,’ ‘Black Adam’ and ‘Shazam 2.’ We are very excited about them. We’ve seen them.
“We think they are terrific, and we think we can make them even better.”
