North Ayrshire Council has granted planning permission to form car wash facility at the vacant ground at 32 Townhead Street, Stevenston.
The site is roughly rectangular in shape and aligned west to east. The formation of access to the site at its western end is proposed. It is also proposed to site a temporary portacabin, providing shelter, storage and a toilet, in the middle of the site on its northern side.
The site would be levelled with hardcore and surfaced with tarmac. The use would be operated Monday to Sunday from 9am until 5pm.
The land was formerly the site of a public house which was closed and demolished after 2007. Following the demolition of the building, the condition of the land has been the subject of complaints.
An Amenity Notice requiring clearance of refuse from the land was issued in 2010. Subsequent planning investigations were also carried out in 2014 and 2015, securing the removal of refuse and the screening of the site.
In November 2016 Planning Permission was granted to change the use of the site to a car wash. That permission was not implemented and has expired.
A new application for a car wash facility was resubmitted on April 6, 2023 and has been approved by the council with conditions, including operation within the hours of 9am to 5pm daily to protect neighbouring residential properties from noise.
The temporary accommodation structure shall also be removed on or before May 1, 2026 in recognition of the temporary nature of the structure and to protect the long-term visual amenity of the area.
The developer also needs to ensure an appropriate access and egress for the site, as well as ensuring no deleterious materials deposited onto the public road in the interest of road safety.
