EXPERTS monitoring extremists have warned parts of the media were stoking tensions after a GB News presenter was praised for his alleged “support” of a far-right group.
Hope Not Hate claimed both the Government and sections of the media had contributed to an “emboldened” far-right movement in Britain.
It comes after we revealed how GB News presenter Martin Daubney, who is also the deputy leader of Laurence Fox’s Reclaim Party, was praised by the ethno-nationalist group Patriotic Alternative at a recent meeting.
The group’s deputy leader Laura Melia had included Daubney in a list of media personalities, including Jordan Peterson, who she claimed had been supportive of her organisation, according to a leaked audio recording obtained by investigators at Red Flare.
She said: “When we were on Twitter, we were getting support from people like Jordan Peterson and Sargon and MPs [sic] … Martin Daubney, [from Reclaim]”.
Melia added: “And I really feel like we're beginning to move the Overton window and nationalism, ethnic nationalism, is becoming more mainstream.”
Responding to the comments, a spokesperson for Hope Not Hate said: “The fact that Patriotic Alternative thinks that they’ve found a friend in GB News and the Reclaim Party’s Martin Daubney suggests that more mainstream right-wing rhetoric is straying into dangerous territory.
“Hope Not Hate recorded a 102% increase in anti-migrant activity in 2022 compared to 2021. This is off the back of the far right feeling emboldened by the inflammatory language on migrants, asylum seekers and refugees coming from the Government and sections of the media.”
