A tragic incident unfolded in Fujian province as a family of six lost their lives due to extreme weather conditions. The family, who had been reported missing, sought refuge in a temple near their home in Shanghang county. Unfortunately, the temple was struck by a landslide, resulting in the family's untimely demise. This devastating event adds to the toll of extreme weather-related deaths in the region, with neighboring Guangdong province already recording 47 fatalities due to historic flooding caused by relentless rains.
The severe weather not only claimed lives but also wreaked havoc on infrastructure, with over a hundred bridges damaged, farmland flooded, and roads destroyed in the affected areas. The heavy rains, which occurred from Sunday to Tuesday, caused widespread destruction, including toppling trees and collapsing homes, leading to an estimated billions of dollars in damages.

As the nation grapples with the aftermath of these calamities, the National Meteorological Center issued a warning for more extreme weather conditions across several provinces in the south, extending the alert from the previous day. Provinces such as Henan, Anhui, Jiangsu, and Guizhou are bracing for hail and strong thunderstorms, while Heilongjiang province in the northeast has already experienced disruptions in railway services due to heavy rainfall.
These recent incidents follow a series of weather-related disasters in southern China, with Fujian and Guangxi provinces also witnessing landslides and flooding triggered by heavy rainfall. Tragically, one student in Guangxi lost their life after falling into a swollen river during the downpour.
