A former windmill is up for sale with an asking price of £560,000 - having been turned into a quirky nine-bedroom home with a 48ft tower. Yaxham Mill has stunning views over the surrounding countryside and is described as an "extraordinary property".
The mill comprises two distinct areas, with the windmill tower having three floors, linked by a staircase. The ground floor entrance leads to a traditional reception area with exposed beams and tiled flooring.
There is a commercial-style kitchen used for the breakfast servery, with steel worktops and breakfast catering equipment. This floor also has a laundry room and stairs to the first floor, where there is a breakfast room and double-glazed French doors.
Stairs lead to the second floor, where there is a bespoke, hand-made fitted kitchen. A ship's ladder provides access to the third floor which has a bathroom and airing cupboard as well as a double bedroom and steps to the fourth floor.
The fourth floor has another double bedroom with a further double bedroom on the fifth floor. The further bedrooms are in the ground floor building.
It is believed the 162-year-old windmill - in the Norfolk village of Yaxham - ceased working in 1940, when its internal metal mechanisms were sold off to make aircraft and military vehicles for the Second World War effort. Yaxham Mill has been run as a bed and breakfast business in recent years.
Jamie Elbourn, surveyor at estate agents Carter Jonas, said: "It's an extraordinary property and currently owned by a couple who are relocating and so have put it on the market. The mill could continue as a B&B or become a private residence.
"You could create an amazing home office at the top of the tower but it really lends itself to being a B&B as it’s such an unusual building. When you go up the tower you can see for miles around and it’s a really beautiful spot, as well as being a great base to explore the rest of Norfolk."
He said that, despite its history, the mill is not a listed building. The whole property has been recently renovated, Mr Elbourn added, with the tower re-rendered and new windows installed throughout.
