VISAKHAPATNAM: The Visakhapatnam Police took one-day custody of the accused in the extortion case including the reserve inspector Swarna Latha on Wednesday.
But, the cops allegedly did not get any key information during their interrogation of Swarna Latha.
It is recalled that the reserve inspector (RI) and State Police Officers Association vice president Swarna Latha, head constable, and a driver, besides a middleman Suribabu, were arrested when they allegedly threatened and took away Rs 12 lakh cash from a retired Navy petty officer Srinivas a week ago in the name of exchange of Rs. 2000 notes for Rs. 500 notes.
Cops led by Zone-I deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Vidyasagar Naidu grilled the accused for information in MVP Police Station. According to sources, investigation officers enquired the woman RI Swarna Latha about how she was involved in the extortion case and whether she knew about the middleman earlier or if she was influenced by some others.
Sources said that the woman reserve inspector did not reveal anything even after the police officer assured help. City police sought an extension of police custody, but the court did not permit them.
