Explained: Why NDTV founders got clean chit 7 years after CBI raids

Seven years ago, the CBI raided NDTV and the homes of its founders, Prannoy and Radhika Roy, in connection with a Rs 375 crore loan they took from ICICI Bank in 2008.

Now, the CBI has closed the case on finding no wrongdoing. The central agency’s closure report concluded that this was a normal transaction and there was no violation of law or criminality.

The raid and case had a domino effect that led to the eventual takeover of NDTV by business tycoon Gautam Adani.

So, what does the CBI’s closure report say? What were the CBI’s charges? How did they fall apart? And how was the case linked to Adani’s takeover of what was considered broadcast media’s last bastion of independent journalism?
