The latest Covid variant to emerge has presented a new symptoms. The subvariant, called Arcturus, has led to rocketing infections in the country and has seen health officials there reintroduce mask-wearing rules and some other measures.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has said that Arcturus is spreading across India. It has been found in 22 countries so far, including the UK, USA, Australia and Singapore.
On Friday India logged 11,109 new infections, the biggest rise in a year. It now has just under 50,000 active cases. Although those numbers are very small as a proportion of India's population, health officials are worried about the jumps.
