If you've ever dreamed of witnessing the mesmerizing spectacle of the Northern Lights, then 2024 might just be your year. According to a survey conducted by travel technology company Expedia, nearly half of Americans (42 percent) are prioritizing aurora chasing over other iconic bucket list experiences in the upcoming year. Expedia is stepping in to fulfill this growing travel trend by releasing a comprehensive guide on where to go and what you need to know to witness this breathtaking natural phenomenon firsthand.
The survey revealed that respondents commonly associated Finland with the Northern Lights, and indeed, Finland is a popular destination for aurora hunters. However, Expedia points out that there are closer-to-home alternatives that offer equally fantastic viewing opportunities. Canada, for instance, boasts two prime spots for observing the Northern Lights. Yellowknife, a city within the Northwest Territories, and Churchill, a town in Manitoba renowned for its polar bear sightings, are both excellent choices.
