EXCLUSIVE: Two professional Lanarkshire football clubs set to announce ground-sharing partnership

Clyde Football Club are set to sensationally announce a new partnership that will see them ground share with Hamilton Accies.

The move comes after North Lanarkshire Council (NLC) announced they would not be renewing Clyde's current lease at Broadwood, in Cumbernauld, when it expires in May 2023.

Now, the Scottish League One side will move into their new home in a deal brokered by club bosses on Thursday.

That will see them play their home games at Scottish Championship outfit, Hamilton Accies' Fountain of Youth Stadium

A source told Lanarkshire Live : "This is the best suggestion for both clubs and ensures Clyde Football Club have a home stadium in Lanarkshire.

"We are sure this will be a very worthwhile ground sharing partnership that will benefit both clubs, staff and fans."

Clyde were dumped from Broadwood by their landlords NLC shortly after re-signing rapist David Goodwillie just days after selling the striker on to Raith Rovers in February.

Clyde FC have been told they are to leave Broadwood Stadium (SNS Group)

Goodwillie was ruled a rapist in a 2017 civil court case and when Clyde made the decision to re-sign the controversial forward on a loan deal after the deal turned sour at Raith, NLC decided to sever ties with the club.

In a sensational move by the local authorit, they also banned Goodwillie from enetering their stadium.

In a statement from NLC at the time they said: "We have informed Clyde FC that the council intends not to renew the lease with the club when the contract for the use of Broadwood Stadium expires in May 2023.

"The council utterly condemns all and any violence towards, or abuse of, women.

"In re-signing Mr Goodwillie, Clyde FC has not acknowledged that background or community concerns, instead choosing to focus on enabling Mr Goodwillie to play football.

"We regret that this action is necessary.

"However, the council has a responsibility to the wider community to act, and to send a clear signal that abuse must not be tolerated."
