Ex-USA star explains why Jesse Marsch rejected Southampton and Leicester City

Former United States international Jimmy Conrad has explained why Jesse Marsch turned down job offers from Southampton and Leicester City.

Marsch has been out of work since he was sacked by Leeds in February, but was quickly lined up as a potential replacement for Nathan Jones at St Mary's.

The American opted against taking over at Southampton, and did the same when Leicester City came calling last week.

Dean Smith has since been installed as interim manager, and Conrad, who has recently spoken to Marsch, commends his compatriot for turning down the chance to return to the Premier League.

“The fact that he has said ‘no’ to a couple of Premier League teams is interesting. Southampton was first, now Leicester City,” Conrad told the In Soccer We Trust podcast.

“I had some text conversations with him about Southampton. Some of the insight he gave me about Southampton was that they just don’t know what they want. They don’t know where they want to go.

“Maybe they just wanted him for the rest of the season. I am sure Jesse could see that was happening and he was like; ‘You know what, I’m gonna pass’.

"But it’s pretty cool that he’s been part of these conversations and even cooler that he’s saying; ‘Nah, screw you guys, I can see what you are trying to do’'."
