Tasmania's Liberal government has elevated a former television journalist to cabinet in the party's third ministerial shuffle in about a month.
Jo Palmer, who was elected to the state's upper house in 2020, was on Monday appointed minister for women, primary industries and water, as well as disability services.
The reshuffle was forced by former premier Peter Gutwein's shock decision to quit politics last Monday after two years in the top job.
His replacement, Jeremy Rockliff, said Ms Palmer was passionate about community pride, local jobs and small business growth.
Ms Palmer, 50, is a former presenter with the Seven Network and was once crowned Miss Tasmania and Miss Australia.
In her inaugural Legislative Council speech, she spoke about the strength and brilliance of her father who lived with multiple sclerosis.
Mr Gutwein's other portfolios of tourism and climate change have been assigned to Mr Rockliff and Roger Jaensch respectively.
Mr Rockliff, deputy premier since the Liberals came to power in 2014, was voted unopposed as Tasmania's 47th premier at a party room meeting on Friday.
Ms Palmer's appointment comes after two ministerial reshuffles in February following the resignation of former education minister Sarah Courtney and upper house member Jane Howlett's decision to leave cabinet.
Ms Courtney quit politics citing a desire to spend more time with family after copping criticism over the timing of an overseas holiday in the lead-up to the school year.
Mr Gutwein, who called time on a 20-year political career, said his "tank was empty" following a draining few years managing COVID-19 issues.
Among other ministerial tweaks, senior MP Guy Barnett has picked up the state development, construction and housing portfolio, having relinquished primary industries and water to Ms Palmer.
A recount to determine Mr Gutwein's replacement in the northern electorate of Bass will begin on April 26.
