A former Sydney gynaecologist has been found not guilty of sexually assaulting a patient.
On Monday in the District Court, Acting Judge Michael Allen found Dr Richard Ian Reid, 78, not guilty of nine charges of aggravated sexual assault.
Dr Reid faced allegations that he raped the patient on eight separate occasions in the Sydney suburb of Edgecliff. He denied he improperly treated her.
The then retired specialist was arrested in September 2019 after the woman accused him of assaulting her between 2010 and 2014.
At the time the complainant approached the police in November 2018, she was 64.
At a judge-alone trial in February this year, the crown alleged that Dr Reid placed his fingers inside the patient's vagina for his own sexual gratification.
The woman said she continued to see Dr Reid because he had told her he was the only person in Australia who knew how to do the surgery she'd undergone, and she believed only he could fix her ailments arising from it.
Dr Reid's lawyer told the court that the woman had falsified her claims and had reported the incident in 2018 for financial reasons.
