A major update has been provided on the condition of former Rangers academy product Dapo Mebude.
Yesterday, the ex-Scotland U21 international was involved in a car crash in Belgium.
The 22-year-old's vehicle collided with a tree at an exit in Loppem on Sunday. He was subsequently taken to hospital where his condition was said to be 'critical'.
Mebude was traveling to play for KV Oostende in a practice match when the incident occurred.
Last night, it was revealed that Mebude had undergone successful surgery following the accident.
Now, Oostende has released a positive update on the player's condition, which is now said to be 'stable', despite remaining in intensive care.
In a statement posted on X, the club said: "After yesterday's successful operation, Dapo Mebude's situation is stable.
"He is still in intensive care where he is still sedated and ventilated for the time being.
"The doctors are satisfied with his progress, but it remains to be seen. Stay strong Dapo!"
No other vehicles were involved in the incident.
The local prosecutor's office is quoted as saying: “It is not clear how the accident could have happened.
“The public prosecutor's office has appointed a traffic expert to investigate the precise circumstances of the accident.”
Mebude came through the ranks at Auchenhowie having joined Rangers aged 11.
He broke into the first team fold under Steven Gerrard and made his senior debut on the final day of the 2018/19 season in a 2-1 loss at Kilmarnock.
After a loan spell to gain some much-needed first-team experience at Queen of the South, the Scotland Under-21 international left Ibrox in 2021 to sign for Watford.
He also played at Wimbledon on loan before making the move to Belgium with Oostende.
