BRUNO ALVES has landed a non-playing role at former club AEK Athens just one day after announcing his retirement as a player.
The ex-Rangers man will not be coming back to Ibrox but will instead return to his former club in Greece as their Sporting Director.
The defender enjoyed a successful loan stint at the Greek outfit two years prior to flopping under Pedro Caixinha in Glasgow.
The Greek giants confirmed the signing of the 40-year-old in a statement that read: "AEK announces that it has reached an agreement with Bruno Alves, to take over the position of athletic director of our team from July 1.
"In his great career he also played in Zenit St. Petersburg, Fenerbahce, Cagliari, Rangers and Parma, while he hung up his football shoes in Greece, as a footballer of Apollon Smyrna.
"He was for a number of years a key member of the Portuguese National Team, with which he counted 96 appearances (11 goals).
"He has participated in three World Cups and three European Cups, celebrating winning the Euro in 2016.
"At the collective level he has won four championships, two cups and two Portuguese Super Cups, two championships and a Russian Super Cup, a championship and a Turkish Super Cup.
"Bruno, welcome back to the AEK family!"
Injury hampered the ex-Portuguese international in his time in Scotland, and he left Rangers shortly after Steven Gerrard's appointment as manager.
