Ex-Rangers ace Ryan Kent handed Fenerbahce lifeline as Jose Mourinho to take over

Ryan Kent could be handed a lifeline at Fenerbahce with Jose Mourinho to take over as manager at the Super Lig.

The former Rangers winger has endured a difficult time in Turkey since his Ibrox exit last summer - and struggled for significant opportunities under former boss Ismail Kartal.

Kent signed a four-year deal with the Super Lig giants but has only played 18 times since his big switch.

It's reported Kent could become a free agent with his contract torn up at Fenerbahce 12 months after signing.

Haber claims Kent's deal will be scrapped in order to facilitate a transfer return to England for a fresh start.

However, there is the possibility that could change should Mourinho wish to keep hold of the former Rangers winger.

Kent had previously been close to a Fenerbahce exit to join Serie A side Lazio in January before a late change.

Discussing Kent's position at Fenerbahce, previous manager Kartal said:  "We had 15 people and 1 person was going to leave the squad. Kent received serious offers from Europe, including Lazio.

“We wanted to keep (Joshua) King in the squad. Kent, he said, ‘I don't want to go.’ That's how we made our choice.

"I always prefer a solid King. If King is healthy, he will get you a game on his own. It was unfortunate that he got injured 4 days after announcing the list."

Sky Germany reports Jose Mourinho is set to take over as Fenerbahce manager.

The outlet claim the former Manchester United and Chelsea manager has agreed to become head coach of the club on a two-year deal.

Mourinho has been out of management since being sacked by Roma in January. The Portuguese manager had lifted the UEFA Conference League trophy at the Italian club but was relieved of his duties after a poor run of form saw the club drop to ninth in the Serie A league table.

And his arrival at Fenerbahce opens to door for a lifeline at the club for Kent. The English forward thrived in a counter-attacking style for Rangers in Europe, particularly in the run to the Europa League final under Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

He appeared destined to call time on his period in Turkey but Mourinho's arrival has the potential to change plans at the Turkish giants.
