An ex-RAF officer with a conviction for domestic abuse plans to bid for election as a Liberal Democrat councillor.

Former wing commander Allan Steele is bidding for a seat on East Renfrewshire Council, when voters go to the polls at the May elections.

The Giffnock dad - who was decorated by Barack Obama after serving at the Pentagon - is chairman of is local branch of the Scottish Lib Dems, the Daily Record reports.
