Ex-Newcastle United and England star slams 'woeful' Jesse Marsch and Leeds United after 0-0 draw

Former Newcastle United midfielder and England international Chris Waddle has branded Jesse Marsch and Leeds United as 'woeful' after their 0-0 draw against the Magpies on Saturday afternoon.

The Whites dug deep and frustrated Eddie Howe's side at a rainy St. James' Park, so much so that tempers eventually flared over with Callum Wilson pushing Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier, with the Frenchman also being booked for time-wasting.

After a few top saves, Meslier continued to stifle anything Newcastle through forward with the Whites stopping their seven-game winning streak dead in its tracks.

But Waddle was less impressed than most Whites fans with their defensive performance when he berated Marsch's players for their poor positioning in a set-piece scenario.

"The marking was absolutely woeful," Waddle said on BBC Radio 5 Live. "There were two Newcastle players queuing up and they should have hit the target at least. You can see why Leeds have leaked goals on set pieces this season."

"From the last three set pieces, Newcastle should be 3-0 up. What are Leeds doing? You’ve got to mark a man, all they do is mark space. There’s not one of them who wants to attack the ball and head it."
