Ex-Met Police officer ‘used dead people’s bank cards after being called to sudden deaths’

A former Metropolitan Police officer has been charged with a string of misconduct allegations including using the stolen bank cards of dead people.

Muhammed Mustafa Darr, 37, faces three counts of misconduct in public office and one of perverting the course of justice, and is due to appear in court this week.

Criminal charges follow an investigation by the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards, under the direction of the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

“The charges relate to alleged offending between 2018 and 2020 when the former constable was on a response unit and relate to the misuse of police computer systems including unlawfully accessing information to notify an external party, as well as the alleged theft of items from a member of the public’s vehicle”, said the IOPC in a statement.

“One of the misconduct in public office charges relates to the former officer allegedly using the bank cards of deceased persons following attendance at sudden death scenes.”

Darr, who was based at the Met’s North Area Basic Command Unit but no longer works for the force, is due to appear at Westminster magistrates court on Wednesday.

The IOPC said charges have been brought at the conclusion of the Met’s investigation, after a file of evidence was passed to the Crown Prosecution Service.
