Ex-Man Utd ace looks completely unrecognisable as flowing locks ditched for hipster look

Johnathan Greening was easy to spot on the Old Trafford pitch during his three years at Manchester United due to his long, curly hairstyle - but these days those locks have long gone.

The new hair isn't the only thing Greening has changed about his appearance since his Red Devils' days, the former United star has also added a beefy beard to the mix. The 43-year-old even dyed his hair blonde in the recent past, which is quite the change from the kind of hair many associate with Greening.

Judging by his Instagram profile, Greening first started to switch up his appearance in the early stages of lockdown. A snap from April 2020 shows Greening donning a huge beard, blonde locks and heart-shaped sunglasses while soaking up the sun shirtless.

The picture got some attention from fellow former professionals, as ex-Arsenal star John Hartson jokingly compared Greening to Neymar while Bobby Zamora simply added: "Look a lot better."

During his time under Sir Alex Ferguson, Greening found first-team football difficult to come by. Given the United squad back then featured names like Roy Keane, David Beckham, Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs, leaving very few vacancies in the line-up in both midfield and defence.

He did manage to make seven appearances during the iconic 1998/99 treble-winning season, three of which came in the league, a further three in the League Cup as well as a single FA Cup outing.

Greening was an unused substitute for arguably the most memorable night in United's history when they snatched the Champions League from under the noses of Bayern Munich late on in the Camp Nou. In fact, he failed to get on the pitch for a single minute throughout that triumphant Champions League campaign.

Greening went onto have a stellar career in the English top-flight, plying his trade for the Middlesbrough, West Brom and Fulham.

The midfielder was part of the Baggies side that pulled of what has since been affectionately dubbed 'the great escape' season. West Brom were bottom of the league on Christmas Day 2005, yet somehow managed to survive the drop come the end of the campaign.

Greening eventually upped sticks from the Hawthorns to join Fulham, where he yet again part of something special as he played his part during the Cottagers' run to the UEFA Europa League final in 2010.

Under the guidance of Roy Hodgson, Greening was one game away from adding a Europa League winners medal to his illustrious honours list but Fulham failed to get the better of Spanish giants Atletico Madrid.

He called time on a 21-year playing career in 2017, with his final games coming for Northern Premier League Division One outfit Tafcaster Albion.
