Ex-Liverpool star Danny Murphy slams Man Utd's celebrations against Leeds

Danny Murphy has hit out at Manchester United's players for celebrating their win at Leeds "like they'd won the title".

The Red Devils saw off their arch rivals 4-2 at Elland Road on Sunday afternoon.

In a game played in atrocious conditions United went 2-0 up before conceding twice in the space of a minute.

Two late goals allowed them to pick up all three points and their joy and full-time was particularly evident as they basked in the glory of the three points.

It keeps Ralf Rangnick's men in fourth, for now, as they remain in a heated battle for the final Champions League spot.

But Murphy has poured water on their fire, questioning their own ambitions if they feel that strongly about seeing off Leeds.

The Whites are in 15th, but have shipped plenty of goals this term, and the TalkSport pundit believes there needs to be a change in mindset at the Manchester club.

Will Man Utd finish in the top four this season? Have your say in the comments!

He said: "This is what I'll say about United - this is how far they've come and its a shame because they are a brilliant club.

"But they were celebrating that win at Leeds, to cement fourth position for the time being, like they'd won the title.

"You were watching it going, okay, passion, emotion - I get it. But this is Man Utd, they're now in fourth. Well done boys.

"You've won at Leeds, who have conceded the second most goals in the Premier League. They should be beating Leeds and Brighton - they've spent the most money.

"They're celebrating fourth position and saying 'a couple of months ago we wouldn't have won this game'. They expectations have got to be higher.

He then added: "This idea that United have won twice in a week, are in fourth and now everything's alright again.

"I don't concur with that."

United's win also saw them end a lengthy drought which hadn't seen them score from a corner.

Skipper Harry Maguire nodded home in the first-half from the set piece and hailed the "old school" win achieved by him and his teammates.

Rangnick was hoping that the win would serve to continue the good feeling in and around the group.

He said: “[The win] was great for everybody in the club, for supporters, for the players, for us, we knew that we had to win, even more so after yesterday’s results. Let’s keep it going.

"I hope this experience today will also give us additional energy for the Champions League and upcoming games in the Premier League.”
